The Igloo is not as Cold as it use to Be!

Wow, game 7. A tight, low scoring game 7. After games 1 and 2 I thought there's no way Pittsburgh had a change at winning this series. They played like they had bricks tied to there skates. The odds didn't help either, I think it was out of 33 times the team that had a 2 game series lead in the finals had won it 32 times. I thought there only chance of just making it series was that they had to win games 3 and 4, which they did.But then game 5, Detroit took them to school, and smacked them around like a raggedy Ann doll and pumped them 5 to 0. But games 6 and 7 where defendant nail biters, very exciting and great to see the last 4 goals scored my the Penguins where scored by Tyler Kennedy, Jordan Staal and the Monster of game 7 Max Talbot who scored both goals in game game 7. Don't get me wrong I love Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, but this team showed me that it's just not a 2 superstar team, it's a team with depth and heart. They carried each other on each other shoulders pretty much most of the playoffs. I know looking at there points for the playoffs it looks like a 2 player superstar team. Malkin 36 points, +3 and Crosby 31 points, +9. Then 3rd in scoring with a huge drop is Bill Guerin with 15 points, +8. But there was 8 players with points in double digits and all of them where in the +. Hell even Hal Gill was a +8!
I know Malkin got his 36 points, 3 game winning goals, 7 power play goals and a over-time goal, but did have 51 pim's, I would have like to have seen Marc-Andre Fleury win the Conn Smythe Trophy, I thought he had a fantastic playoff, there was a couple of games where blew a few tires, but he always came back in the next game on fire. He still has many more opportunity's to lift both Lord Stanley and the Conn Smythe Trophy over his head!
I think the Detroit Red Wings are true champions, winning the Cup 4 times in the last 12 years, with one year in there that was a lock-out. Been to the finals 6 times in the last 14 years. From ownership to management to scouting to coaching to players they have from drafting, trading and signing. It's class act from top to bottom. Can you hate them, sure you can, but why? Because were jealous that the team we cheer for hasn't won a championship in over 40 years. Never even been to a final in that time. (I'm sure you know who I'm talking about). Do I feel sorry for Detroit Red Wings and there fans.....NO! I think it is time for change, some new blood, a city that hasn't won the Stanley Cup in 17 years. Not bad for a team that couldn't full the stadium and was almost on it's way out of town about 5 or 6 years ago.
Some great stories in this years NHL playoffs. 8th seed Anaheim laying a beating on 1st seed San Jose, Chicago Black Hawks making the playoffs, beating the Calgary Flames in the 1st round, and making to the Western Final, but losing to Detroit, another original 6 team. The Battle of Pennsylvania. Crosby vs. Ovechkin. Staal vs. Staal. And a repeat of Pittsburgh vs. Detroit in the finals, but a new Stanley Champion for 2009.
